+ Are you accepting new patients?

Always! Drop us a line, send us an e-mail or walk into the studio!

+ What should I expect on my first visit?

Your first visit is a very important one. First, we will get to know a little bit about your medical history, dental history and your current concerns regarding your dental health.  Then we will assess what x-rays and photos you require based on your specific dental needs.

A thorough exam will be completed, as well as an oral cancer screening. Afterwards, our hygienist Tanya will meticulously yet gently clean your teeth and assess your gums. A polishing treatment at the end will ensure you leave with a sparkling smile!

Together, we will review the treatment plan that is specifically curated for your dental needs to ensure you feel comfortable and clearly understand everything!

+ How do I switch from my current dentist?

It’s simple – we have a form for you to sign at the studio that allows us to gather relevant information from your previous dental office on your behalf. We take care of the rest!

+ How do I pay for my visit?

We accept all major dental insurance plans, as well as the following methods of payment: cash, debit, credit card (except American Express) and cheque.

+ What does my insurance cover?

We provide a complimentary insurance verification and breakdown of benefits and co-payments as part of your first appointment. Please e-mail us (info@gelinasdentalstudio.com) a photo of the front and back of your insurance card, as well as the primary account holder's birthday, and we will provide you an estimate of your coverage. (If you do not wish to email your information, give us a call instead at 416-477-1624)

Please keep in mind: The insurance company will only tell us what services are covered during each benefit year, not what you have used so far.

+ What if I don't have insurance?

Let us know and we will make sure you know what to expect before you come to your appointment. For patients with larger treatment needs, we will work together to find payment plans that are comfortable for you and your family.

+ Do you treat kids?

We sure do! Our approach for treating each child is personal and individualized to ensure their comfort. Dr. Gelinas has provided dental treatment for children as young as two years of age. However, if your child would be best cared for by a pediatric dentist, we are more than happy to direct you to an excellent one!

+ When should my child have their first dental visit?

The Canadian Dental Association recommends that children be assessed by a dentist around their first birthday – prevention and good habits start young! Our goal is to have your child feel comfortable before there is a need for dental treatment. 

We recognize that working with children can be tricky. If your child doesn’t want to open wide during their appointment, we will modify the treatment. Children become uncooperative when they are scared, so instead we can pick out a book, look around and give them a prize. Even if they just ride the chair during the first visit- that’s a win.

A tip for parents: bring your child to your next cleaning appointment. If they see you feel comfortable, they can learn to feel comfortable themselves.

+ Why can’t I book an appointment online?

We want to make sure we have specific information from you before your appointment, so that it runs smoothly and we are prepared!  We have found that a quick phone conversation is a much smoother process than playing e-mail tag. Please let us know your preferred time for a call and we’ll work around your schedule.

+ Is my information secure?

Yes! Our dental software is encrypted and our IT department has installed a top of the line firewall.  

+ What if I need to cancel or I miss my appointment?

We kindly ask that you provide notice of 2 business days for cancellations or changes. Gelinas Dental Studio has a $50 no-show or late cancellation fee. However, we understand that sometimes the day doesn’t go as planned, and are willing to work with you when circumstances are beyond your control. 

+ What if I have an emergency?

If you are experiencing dental pain or swelling, please call the office immediately. We will try our best to see you the same day. Tooth pain can be debilitating and we want to make sure we alleviate it as soon as possible.  If it’s a holiday or after hours, please seek treatment at Emergency Dental Services located at 100–1650 Yonge Street (416-485-7121). They are open 7 days a week until midnight.

Also, please note that if you decide to seek attention at a hospital, Mt. Sinai is the only hospital in Toronto with an Oral Surgery Department.
