FAQ
Here are some of the questions we get frequently asked at Gelinas Dental Studio. If you have any questions not covered here, send us an email at info@gelinasdentalstudio.com!
Are you accepting new patients?
Always! Send us an e-mail or walk into the studio!
What should I expect on my first visit?
Your first visit is probably the most important one. First, we get to know your medical and dental history, as well as any current concerns regarding oral health. Next, we assess which types of x-rays you require based on your specific dental needs.
After a thorough exam is completed and an oral cancer screening is done, one of our hygienists will gently though meticulously clean your teeth and gums. A polishing treatment at the end will ensure you leave with a sparkling smile!
Together, we will review the holistic treatment plan for your dental needs to ensure you feel comfortable and clear about everything.
How do I switch from my current dentist?
It’s simple; we have a form for you to sign that allows us to gather all relevant information from your previous dental office. We take care of the rest!
How do I pay for my visit?
We accept all major dental insurance plans, as well as the following methods of payment: cash, debit or credit card (except American Express), and cheque.
What if I don't have insurance?
Let us know, and we will make sure you know what to expect before arriving at your appointment. For patients with larger treatment needs, we will work together to find a payment plan that is comfortable for you and your family.
Do you treat kids?
We sure do! Our approach for treating each child is personal and individualized to ensure a positive experience associated with going to the dentist. Dr. Gelinas has provided dental treatment for children as young as two years of age. However, if your child would be best cared for by a pediatric dentist, we are more than happy to refer you to an excellent one!
When should my child(ren) have their first dental visit?
The Canadian Dental Association recommends that children be assessed by a dentist around their first birthday. Yup, prevention and good habits start young! Our goal is to have your child feel comfortable before any dental treatments are needed.
We recognize that working with children can be tricky. If, for example, your child doesn’t want to or can’t open wide during an appointment, we will modify the treatment. Children become uncooperative when they are scared, so we approach them by picking out a book, looking around, and/or giving them a prize for good behaviour. Even if they just ride the chair during their first visit – that’s a major win.
* A tip for parents: bring your child to your next cleaning appointment! If they see you feeling comfortable, they will learn to feel comfortable themselves.
Is my information secure?
Yes! Our dental software is encrypted and our IT department has installed a top-of-the-line firewall for extra security.
What if I need to cancel or I miss my appointment?
We kindly ask that you provide us with a minimum of 2 business days notice when cancelling or changing an appointment. Gelinas Dental Studio has a $150 no-show/late-cancellation fee. However, we understand that sometimes life doesn’t go as planned, and are willing to come up with a solution when circumstances are beyond your control.
What if I have an emergency?
If you are experiencing dental pain or swelling, please call the office immediately. We will try our best to see you the same day. Tooth pain can be debilitating and we want to make sure we alleviate it as soon as possible. If it’s a holiday or after hours, please seek treatment at Emergency Dental Services located at 100-1650 Yonge Street; they are open 7 days a week until midnight.
* Please note that if you decide to seek attention at a hospital, Mount Sinai is the only hospital in Toronto with an Oral Surgery Department.
