FAQ

FIRST VISIT

Your first visit is a very important one. First, we will get to know a little bit about your medical history, dental history, and your current concerns regarding your dental health. After that, Dr. Gelinas will assess what X-rays and photos you require based on your specific dental needs. A thorough exam will be completed as well as an oral cancer screening.

After that Tanya, our hygienist will meticulously but gently clean your teeth and assess your gums. A polishing treatment at the end will ensure you leave with a sparkling smile. We will review your treatment plan that is specifically curated for your dental needs together to ensure you clearly understand everything!

Please see below for some common FAQ we receive here at Gelinas Dental Studio. If you have additional questions, don’t hesitate to send us an e-mail at info@gelinasdentalstudio.com, or give us a call at 416-477-1624.

Are you accepting new patients?

Always! Drop us a line, send us an e-mail or walk-in to the studio!

How do I switch from my current dentist?

It’s easy – we have a form for you to sign at the studio that allows us to gather relevant information from your previous dental office on your behalf. We take care of the rest!

Do you take insurance?

Yes!  We understand that dental insurance can be confusing, so we’ll take care of it.  When you call us, make sure you have your insurance card handy (as well as your partner’s card).  We will contact your carrier and find out what your specific plan covers so we can discuss the details with you when we review your treatment plan.

Do you treat kids?

We sure do! We love kids but realize going to the dentist isn’t at the top of their list of favourite activities, so our approach for treating children is very specific to ensure they have a positive experience.  Dr. Gelinas has provided dental treatment for children as young as two years of age. We have tools available, like laughing gas, to promote comfort and aid in this process if needed.  However, if your child would be best cared for with a paediatric dentist, we are more than happy to direct you to an excellent one!

A tip we always tell parents – bring your child with you to your next cleaning appointment.  If they see you feel comfortable, they can learn to feel comfortable themselves.

How many cleanings does my insurance cover?

Each insurance plan is different, but please don’t let your insurance company dictate what is best for you.  The number of cleanings you need to maintain oral health is very specific to YOUR dental needs. Often times, when insurance companies modify plans the first thing to suffer is your dental coverage.  If something is not covered, we will help come up with a financial solution that works for you.

How do I pay for my visit?

Our primary goal is customer service.  Unlike some offices, we don’t ask that you pay upfront for your care.  Instead, we will electronically submit the treatment on your behalf to the insurance company. You are only responsible for your co-payment.  Like most other services, you pay for the treatment only as it’s been completed.

We accept the following methods of payment: cash, debit, credit card (except American Express), and cheque.

Why can’t I book an appointment online?

We really want to make sure we get specific information from you so your appointment runs smoothly and we are prepared for you!  We have found that it is a smoother process to have a quick conversation with you over the phone, rather than hassling you with numerous e-mails and playing e-mail tag. Please let us know your preferred time for a call and we’ll work around your schedule.

Is my information secure?

Yes! Our dental software is encrypted and our IT department has installed a top of the line firewall.

What if I need to cancel or I miss my appointment?

We kindly ask that you provide 48 hours notice for cancellations or changes. Gelinas Dental Studio has a $50 no-show and late cancel fee, however we understand that sometimes the day doesn’t go as planned. At the end of the day we want to ensure you have a good experience with us, and we are willing to work with you when circumstances are beyond your control.

When should my child have their first dental visit?

The Canadian Dental Association recommends that children be assessed by a dentist around their first birthday – prevention and good habits start young! Our goal is to have your child feel comfortable at Gelinas Dental Studio before there is a need for dental treatment.  We recognize that working with children can be tricky, so if your child doesn’t want to open wide during their appointment, we will modify the appointment to ensure they leave having a positive experience. Children become uncooperative when they are scared, so instead we can pick out a book, look around and give them a prize. The next time should be smoother.

What if I have an emergency?

If you are experiencing dental pain or swelling, please call the office immediately.  We will try our best to see you the same day. We understand tooth pain can be debilitating and want to make sure we alleviate it as soon as possible.  If it’s a holiday or after hours, please seek treatment at Emergency Dental Services located at 100–1650 Yonge Street (416-485-7121). They are open 7 days a week until midnight.

Also, please note that if you decide to seek attention at a hospital, Mt. Sinai is the only hospital in Toronto with an Oral Surgery Department.
